Still Have Questions?

Is a STOP DIETING FOR LIFE membership right for you and your unique journey?
The answer you need may be found below... OR just email us at support@stopdietingforlife.com

  • q-iconWhat kind of food will I be eating on the SDFL (Stop Dieting or Life) program?

Because we believe that God is the maker of all things, including our bodies and the food we eat, our “philosophy” about eating is this: “If God made it, you can eat it!” Basically, what God made for us to eat is good food! We also believe that His design tells us how much we need to eat – whether you think your metabolism is fast or slow, it came from Him! We work with what He gave us.

Transitioning from the “Standard American Diet” of processed foods can be difficult for reasons you may not even be aware of. We don’t pretend the shift is easy. Instead we show you why and what to do about it. We also teach you the principles about eating that come from scripture or are apparent because of how our bodies work. Our approach is to identify our God-given metabolic limits, learn to eat within the limit, and to progressively eat a cleaner whole food diet, as God designed.

  • q-iconHow quickly will I lose weight with the SDFL program?

We recommend aiming for an average weight loss rate of 1 pound per week for several reasons that are covered in the course. We know that several highly advertised plans claim more rapid weight loss such as 5 pounds in 5 days or 30 pounds in 30 days. These approaches require extreme and often unhealthy treatment of our bodies and do not establish a long term sustainable plan for eating.

The SDFL Program focuses on making changes that you can sustain through the program and beyond. Granted, many people lose weight more quickly in the beginning for a variety of reasons we explain in the program. We simply emphasize that the pace of weight loss will slow down. It is normal, and we help our members persevere through occasional impatience! Speed is alluring, but developing consistency in your new habits and new relationship with food are the only way to ensure long term results.

  • q-iconWhat makes a weight loss program "Christian"?

As Christians, we believe that God created our bodies and the food He meant to nourish us. We build our food planning on these principles. Also as Christians, we see our struggle with weight and food as a flesh-spirit battle. We look to scripture and apply the principles that God gives us for victory over the flesh and to identify the steps we must take to make lasting change.

The SDFL program examines several factors that influence the struggle we have with our weight including physical, emotional, mental, social, and cultural factors. It then focuses on the practical ways that God not only gives us strength but causes transformation in us that can change the way we relate to food.

  • q-iconHow is the SDFL program different from diet programs?

Studies of the most popular diet programs reveal a dismal success rate when measured at one year, 2 years and beyond. The problem is not losing the weight. The problem is that 90 plus percent gain the weight back. Diets don’t solve the underlying problem.

Instead, we firmly believe that the only way to fight the battle is to recognize that it is rooted in our flesh nature. The problem and the solution is based in Romans chapters 7 and 8 which teach about the nature of the battle and the only way to win it.

The SDFL program examines several factors that influence our struggle in the flesh, including physical, emotional, mental, social, and cultural factors. We then focus on the ways that God gives us strength and transformation from within. His work in us, and our cooperation with Him can change the way we relate to food, so that it no longer controls us. These are topics that aren’t covered in other programs.

  • q-iconIs the SDFL program for everyone?

Yes and no. Yes because we believe that God’s love and power for lasting change (the basis of the SDFL Program) is for everyone. No, because we recognize that not everyone is open to the Christian faith in Jesus Christ and the principles on which this Program is built. So, this Program is for you if you are a Christian or are open to learning about the Christian faith and how its principles apply to losing weight and living not only a healthy life, but more importantly, a Christ-centered life.

I have reached the maintenance phase now.  I was being unrealistic in my weight goals, and have accepted my weight now which is a healthy BMI.   Through doing your course and the support you gave me I was able to overcome a few things that were getting me stuck, and honestly now I don't think about food much!  I still have the odd slip up but it doesn't end up in a downward spiral. I had a lot of the skills but didn't know how to utilize them, and your course and support gave me what I needed to push through that last stage.  I have been so encouraged to put God first and the biblical perspective really helped me to make sense of things.   I feel more able to support others now that I'm managing it .... i would never say I'm completely 'cured' but managing it and not thinking about it much is really an excellent outcome for me! God bless you!

So, as I've been reading Laura's book, God revealed something to me...For MOST, NEARLY ALL my life I pursued getting thin and I realized I couldn't achieve that on my own. When I understood it was a spirit vs flesh battle, I wanted Jesus to help me. But the thing I realized is what do I want MORE? To be thin, or do I just want Jesus? I want to WANT HIM MORE THAN ANYTHING! For years I've pursued the wrong thing, and then for many more years when I pursued the "Right thing" I pursued for the wrong reason...for what it would benefit ME; what I could get out of it. The years I've spent (and I say spent, not wasted, because I learned so much in those years) pursuing a certain body image kept me distracted from what Romans 14:17 says God's Kingdom is all about: For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. I KNEW I was the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. God in His gentleness, His grace and His mercy extended so much patience towards me and helped me to understand why Peace and Joy eluded me. It was because I was more focused on the IDEA & the REWARD of being "thin" than I was on just being "HIS", totally and completely.

Since joining the Stop Dieting for Life family (and it is like a family!) My relationship with myself & food has changed drastically. And my relationship with the Lord has changed and grown so much. The course gave me what I needed to see and do to make the changes I didn't know how to make before. I'd encourage anybody to the course, join the groups and lean in to learn what  the Lord has to show you. This is unlike any other attempt I've made at losing weight. This is a Christ centered ministry. That is what was missing in all my other attempts. This isn't a diet, it is an invitation to bring the Lord into your daily life and let His word nourish you and equip you to do what you need to do to break free.

Laura taught me how to catch myself when I start to gain the weight back. That’s the main reason I have kept it off and know that I can.
