What kind of food will I be eating on the SDFL (Stop Dieting or Life) program?
Basically, if God made it, and man hasn’t processed it, it is good for food. God made our bodies and the food we are designed to eat. We also believe that His design of our bodies tells us how much we need to eat.
Transitioning from the “Standard American Diet” of processed foods can be difficult for reasons you may not yet be aware of. We’ll teach you why and help you make the shift. We also teach you the principles about eating that come from scripture. We learn our God-given metabolic limits, learn to eat within those limits, and to gradually eat eat a cleaner and cleaner whole food diet, as God designed.
How quickly will I lose weight with the SDFL program?
Stop Dieting for Life is not a rapid weight loss plan. You’ll learn why our bodies don’t react well to rapid weight loss and in fact, fight against it. So, we recommend a slower pace, averaging 1 pound per week early on, then perhaps more slowly as you progress.
We know that several highly advertised plans claim more rapid weight loss such as 5 pounds in 5 days or 30 pounds in 30 days. These approaches require extreme and often unhealthy treatment of our bodies and do not establish a long term sustainable plan for eating.
The SDFL Program focuses less on the pace and more on doing the things you can sustain through the program and beyond. Granted, many people lose weight more quickly in the beginning for a variety of reasons we explain in the program. We simply emphasize that the pace of weight loss will slow down. It is normal, and we help our members persevere through occasional impatience! Speed is alluring, but developing consistency in your new habits and new relationship with food are the only way to ensure long term results.
What makes a weight loss program "Christian"?
As Christians, we see the root of our struggle with weight and food as a flesh vs. spirit battle. No matter what we do, the only power we have to overpower our flesh nature is the Holy Spirit. We look to the word of God to teach us how to walk in the power we have already been given. Paul describes the battle in Romans 7 and 8.
The SDFL program examines several factors that influence the struggle we have with our weight including physical, emotional, mental, social, and cultural factors. We look to the Word of God to teach us and transform us so that we can heal our relationship with food and eating.
How is the SDFL program different from diet programs?
Diets focus on outward transformation and ignore the root cause of the problem. Studies of the most popular diet programs reveal a dismal success rate when measured at one year, 2 years and beyond. When the root cause is ignored the weight comes back.
Instead, we firmly believe that the only way to fight the battle is to recognize that it is rooted in our flesh nature. The solution is based in Romans chapters 7 and 8 which teaches about the nature of the battle and the only way to win it.
The SDFL program examines several factors that influence our struggle in the flesh, including physical, emotional, mental, social, and cultural factors. We then focus on the ways that God gives us strength and transformation from within. His work in us, and our cooperation with Him can change the way we relate to food, so that it no longer controls us.
Is the SDFL program for everyone?
Yes and no, let me explain. Yes because we believe that God’s truth, love and power for lasting change (the basis of the SDFL Program) is for everyone. No, because we recognize that not everyone is open to the Christian faith in Jesus Christ and the principles on which this Program is built.
The course involves time for study, learning, reflecting, and praying, so it requires more of your mind than other programs.
We believe that this Program is for you if you are a Christian or are open to learning about the Christian faith and how its principles apply to losing weight and living not only a healthy life, but more importantly, a Christ-centered life.
